Funeral arrangements set for former Columbus mayor and police Chief Jim Wetherington

The funeral arrangements to honor former Columbus mayor and police Chief Jim Wetherington have been set.

The service will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in First Baptist Church, 212 12th St., in downtown Columbus. Visitation also will be that day in the church and will start one hour before the service, a representative of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory told the Ledger-Enquirer.

Wetherington died Monday at the age of 87. He served Columbus as mayor from 2007-11 and as police chief from 1981-95. He was honored repeatedly during that time as an exemplary police officer and chief, with awards such as Police Officer of the Year and Police Chief of the Year from various organizations, among other achievements.
