'Game Of Thrones’ star Joe Dempsie thinks Cersei was Gendry’s mother

Game Of Thrones star Joe Dempsie, who played the illegitimate son of Robert Baratheon throughout all eight seasons of the hit HBO show, believes that Gendry’s mother was actually Cersei.

In the first season of the show, Ned Stark discovers Gendry working as a blacksmith in King’s Landing.

Gendry says that his mother died when he was an infant and that he never knew his father. Stark quickly realises that Gendry is actually Robert’s son, though, which means he has a rightfully shot at the throne.

During his recent interview with NME, Dempsie admitted that he still wants “to find out who Gendry’s mother was.”

He then immediately added that he has his own “theory that it was actually Cersei and he was actually [her and Robert Baratheon’s] only biological child.”

Dempsie then explained how he arrived at this conclusion. “In season one, when Ned Stark comes to visit him, he asks him about his parents and he said he never knew his father but his mother had yellow hair. I remember thinking, that’s too loaded a line not to mean anything.”

While Gendry proved to be one of the most popular characters on Game Of Thrones, there was a long a period of the show when fans had no idea what had happened to him.

After being freed from Dragonstone by Ser Davos towards the end of season 3, we didn’t get to see Gendry again until season 7.

Of course, plenty of Game Of Thrones fans were left disappointed by the the final episodes of the show, something that Dempsie discussed during his discussion with NME, simply remarking, “They were never going to please everybody.”
