Game of Thrones' Cersei Lannister has done some truly despicable things clawing her way to the Iron Throne, but one was so heinous it couldn't even be aired on telly.
That evil deed relates to one character who has been missing for several seasons now - and no, we're not talking about Lady Stoneheart, people! This missing face is of the furrier variety.
The last time viewers saw the late King Tommen's beloved cat Ser Pounce was back in season 6, just before the boy-king leapt to his death over his wife's murder in the Sept of Baelor. Fans have been wondering what became of Ser Pounce ever since.
Some questions are best left unanswered because Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have revealed the horrible truth to Entertainment Weekly: a vengeful Cersei had her son's pet killed.
"Cersei hated the name ‘Ser Pounce’ so much she could not allow him to survive,” Benioff said. “So she came up with her most diabolical [execution]. Ser Pounce’s death was so horrible we couldn’t even put it on the air.”
This show aired the Red Wedding, the Purple Wedding and the Red Viper literally getting his head smashed to bits by the Mountain. What must have happened to this poor kitty?!
One bit of good news is that Ser Pounce lives on in George R. R. Martin's books. Unfortunately, the cat-actor who portrayed Ser Pounce was just too difficult on set to have the same fate.
“That cat was really not fun to work with,“ Benioff admitted. “There’s a reason the phrase ‘like herding cats’ came into existence. Dogs generally do what you ask them to do if they’re smart and well trained. Cats have their own agenda.”
That's no excuse for a claw-ful death for fur-midable Ser Pounce! If you're keen to find out which other characters are still missing in action heading into the final season, click here for our handy rundown.
