'Game of Thrones' star Gwendoline Christie submitted herself for an Emmy
Game of Thrones stars Gwendoline Christie, Alfie Allen and Carice van Houten received well-deserved Emmy nominations this week, and it's now being reported that all three submitted themselves for their respective categories.
Christie is up for Best Supporting Actress, alongside fellow GoT stars Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Lena Heady. Allen - who played Theon Greyjoy - is nominated for Best Supporting Actor, while van Houten - who starred as Melisandre - is up for Best Guest Actress in a drama series.
The HBO series broke new records after its final season was was nominated for 32 Emmy awards. But the cable network has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that it didn't enter Christie, Allen or van Houten for consideration by the performers peer group of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
HBO did however enter Kit Harinton for lead actor, Emilia Clarke for lead actress, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage for supporting actor, and Turner, Williams and Heady for best supporting actress.
It's not uncommon for actors to be entered for Emmy consideration by their reps or themselves, although it is uncommon for those entries to result in nominations - proving that, despite the network not backing them, all three of them were entirely justified in submitting their own entries.
THR also reports that "there are no hard feelings between the parties and that all nominated performers will receive the full HBO push moving forward".
Meanwhile, Miguel Sapochnik (episode 3, The Long Night) and David Nutter (episode 4, The Last of the Starks) were both nominated for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series.
The final season also secured nominations for other categories including for Cinematography, Casting, Costumes, Hairstyling, Prosthetic Make-up, Music, Title Design, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Stunt Coordination, Picture Editing, and Visual Effects.
