Thousands flock to Winnipeg Jets Fan Fest

A power outage at MTS Iceplex has ended, and delayed on-ice training sessions for Winnipeg Jets players are now back on track – much to the delight of the NHL team's fans.

Thousands lined up on a windy and wet Saturday morning to take in the annual Fan Fest, which included a free pancake breakfast for the first 3,000 people.

'We're big hockey fans, it's so well organized and it's a family event,' said Angel Neault, who drove in from Gilbert Plains to take in on-ice team training sessions.Three were planned to take place 11 a.m., 12:20 p.m. and 1:40 p.m.

'It's great, can't wait to see them on the ice,' said fan Adolf Houle.

An ealry-morning power outage at the Portage Avenue hockey facility triggered delays in the sessions.

The outage affected 70 customers, according to Manitoba Hydro. It began around 3 a.m. CT when the arm of a hydro pole broke. The pole was in a difficult-to-reach swampy area, so pinning down a repair time was difficult, a Hydro spokesperson said.

The Fan Fest officially started at 8 a.m.
