Record-breaking heat over the July Fourth holiday has delayed solid waste collection in Raleigh.

Curbside pickup had already moved back a day after the Independence Day holiday on Thursday.

Then on Friday, the weather station at Raleigh-Durham International Airport recorded its highest-ever temperature measurement at 106 degrees.

Crews in Raleigh were forced to finish some routes early due to the extreme heat.

Because of the delays, Raleigh officials said Monday the city will not issue warnings or fines for carts left at the curb until they are collected.

Collection will continue over “the coming days,” according to the city’s website.
