Gary Neville backs ‘ice-cold’ and ‘brilliant’ Harry Kane to ‘break every record’ as England striker
Harry Kane’s “methodical” approach to goalscoring makes him a relentless striker who can continue breaking records as he reaches the very top.
That’s the opinion of Gary Neville, who says the England striker can already be considered among the top three or so in the history of the game on these shores, at least in terms of the Premier League era.
Having recently netted his 200th Spurs goal and 150th Premier League strike, Kane can continue to scale heights few have achieved, perhaps going on to become England’s all-time scorer too - if he can stay fit.
“The only thing that can stop Harry Kane doing everything in the game, breaking every record, is injury,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast.
Kane has suffered several injuries over the past couple of years which have kept him out for a couple of months at a time, but the hope for Spurs will be that they can manage his workload more in future after bringing in the likes of Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius for this season.
And as a result, that should leave Kane free to play in the biggest games and hit the goals he’s capable of on a regular basis, with his striker’s mindset up there with the finest Neville has experienced.
"Alan Shearer is definitely the best striker in Premier League history in terms of his goal record. He's the best striker I've played with for England, in terms of a number nine, and [Wayne] Rooney I'd put up there with him.
"And Harry Kane has so much similarity in his game, in terms of the mentality, just ice cold, doesn't seem to flinch if he misses a chance, flinch if a goalkeeper saves one, he'll come back and do the right thing.
"Scoring a goal is a process for them, where he knows where the target is.
"It's methodical, and he's brilliant. He's a great professional, and England are lucky to have him."
