Gas leak prompts brief closure of Highway 3 near Oak Bluff

A gas leak forced the closure of Highway 3 near Oak Bluff, Man., just outside Winnipeg, for part of Friday afternoon.

A contractor who was pulling a stop sign out of the ground also pulled out the gas line, sending fumes into the air.

Manitoba Hydro and the RCMP were called, and part of the highway was closed as crews worked to turn off the gas line.

As well, some area businesses were evacuated as a precaution.

The leak was contained several hours later and the road has reopened to traffic.

Manitoba Hydro says a total of 21 customers have been affected, and its crews are still working to fix the damaged gas line.
