Gas line coming to Sutherland Rd.

STRATHROY-CARADOC - Residents along Sutherland Road who have desired a natural gas connection can safely rejoice - a fossil fuel pipeline is coming to a road allowance near you very soon.

Representatives from Enbridge attended Strathroy-Caradoc council’s meeting on Tuesday, 16 February 2021. They outlined the upcoming 2021 London Line Replacement Project.

The project includes full replacement of the 82km of pipelines on the London Line, spanning from the Dawn Compression Station (Lambton County) to the Komoka Transmission Station. The majority of the current London Line was built between 1930 and 1950, and needs replacing.

There will also be a new interconnect into the Strathroy Gate Station. This consists of 8.4km of pipeline that will run from the new London Line (Falconbridge Drive), northbound along Sutherland Road to Calvert Drive. Eligible residents along Sutherland will be contacted by Enbridge in the coming weeks, as they try to hook newly-accessible properties.

The project was approved in late-January by the Ontario Energy Board. Work will be completed by AECON, beginning in the Spring of 2021 and wrapping up by December. Clean-up and restoration will occur in 2022. Total costs will be about $164-million.

The Northern portion of the replacement line is set to take a road-based route, as opposed to using private easements as it has in the past. Enbridge says about 25 properties along Falconbridge, Avro, and Sutherland will gain newfound access to the line as a result of the project.

“We will be focusing on hiring local construction employees where we can, and sourcing local material wherever we can,” says project manager, Darryl Arnold.

He adds that a Community Liaison will reach out to residents to keep them informed. As well, a Landowner Relations person will be available to assist project landowner concerns. Minimal service interruptions are anticipated for residents along the lines.
