Police in Gatineau, Que., say a 37-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the city's first homicide of the year.

In a news release, police said Luk Deslauriers-Forest was arrested after a man in his 60s was killed early Monday morning.

The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Norman Richards.

Officers were called to a home on promenade Wychwood in the Aylmer sector of the city just after 12:30 a.m. Monday after getting reports of a fight.

Both men were found with injuries and rushed to the Hull Hospital, police said, where Richards was pronounced dead.

'Isolated incident,' say police

Both the suspect and the victim lived under the same roof, police said.

Deslauriers-Forest suffered less serious injuries and is being detained in hospital, police said. He made a court appearance via telephone Monday.

Police called the murder an "isolated incident" and said they are not looking for any other suspects.

An autopsy will be performed Tuesday at the Laboratory of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Medicine in Montreal.
