Gatineau Rapibus crash at rush hour sends 17 to hospital

More than 20 people were injured in the crash just before 5 p.m. on April 24, 2014.

There were 22 people injured and 17 were taken to hospital after a pickup truck allegedly ran a red light and crashed with an accordion-style Rapibus in Gatineau during Thursday's rush hour.

Gatineau police said the crash happened just before 5 p.m. on de la Carrière Boulevard near the Galeries de Hull along the Rapibus corridor.

A spokesman for the Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO) said several ambulances were on site and 22 people were injured.

Seventeen people were taken to hospital, including the drivers of the bus and the truck. There were 90 people aboard the bus.

The truck did not stop at a red light, the spokesman and witnesses said.

Since the Rapibus service began in October 2013, there have been 15 crashes involving the buses and vehicles.
