George and Amal Clooney Spotted Taking Boat Trip in Lake Como and Dining at Five-Star Luxury Hotel

The couple returned to Grand Hotel Tremezzo, where they previously had a date night in July 2023

George and Amal Clooney had a sweet summer date in Italy.

On Friday, Aug. 2, the couple was spotted on a boat with friends on the shore of Lake Como before going to the Grand Hotel Tremezzo to dine.

George, 63, wore a gray suit with a black shirt and tan shoes for the occasion, while Amal, 46, rocked a cropped black one-shoulder top with a matching maxi skirt and gold stilettos.

She paired her stylish look with a pair of gold statement earrings.

Lake Como is an upscale region in Northern Italy that is popular among celebrities, with Travel & Leisure citing the Clooneys, Gianni Versace, Lionel Messi and Madonna as famous visitors. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were also seen having a romantic rendezvous in the area in May.

George has famously owned a villa on the lakefront for more than two decades after purchasing it for roughly $10 million, according to The Washington Post. The actor later bought an adjacent property, making it "one of the largest private homes in the area," according to The Wall Street Journal.

As of 2022, the 25-room villa's value was estimated at more than $100 million. In 2023, he squashed rumors of them selling their Italy residence, telling PEOPLE via his rep that "it’s not true."

Lake Como carries a special meaning for the couple. George revealed in a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he met his wife there for the first time in 2013. "I thought she was beautiful, and I thought she was funny and obviously smart," he said of his first impression.

The couple, who share two children, were seen having a date night at the same luxury hotel last summer.

The five-star hotel has several dining options, including a wine bar, a classic bar, a seafood spot and a pizza restaurant. They also house the romantic Italian restaurant La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi, which offers a saffron risotto dish made with gold.
