George Clooney has revealed he’s returning to television
George Clooney’s break from working in front of the camera didn’t last long! The Hollywood veteran, who is busy being a hands-on dad to twins Alexander and Ella, has announced that after 18 years working in film, he’ll be returning to television to bring the classic novel Catch-22 to life.
Last week, Paramount Television confirmed a six-episode miniseries adaptation of the book would be filmed, starring none other than George himself. The actor—who also will direct and executive produce the project—is set to play Colonel Cathcart, a U.S. Army Air Corps commander and the novel’s main antagonist. He’ll be starring alongside famed actor and director Alan Arkin , who will take on the role of Captain Yossarian, the story’s protagonist.
George and Alan will co-star together in the upcoming miniseries.
The handsome actor is following in the footsteps of other Hollywood A-listers like Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman, who have all made the leap from the big screen to television.
George’s last job on the small screen was when he played Dr. Doug Ross on ER in the 1990s. Since then, his film career has skyrocketed, and he has two Oscars to his name. The news may come as a surprise to fans after he recently hinted at taking a well-deserved break from acting. He mentioned in an interview with The Sunday Times that he was going to be spending more time behind the camera, “I acted for a long time and, you know, I’m 56,” he confessed, adding, “I’m not the guy that gets the girl anymore. At least, I shouldn’t be the guy that gets the girl.”

The Suburbicon director went on to explain why he doesn’t feel the same need to act as he did in his younger days. “Acting used to be how I paid the rent, but I sold a tequila company for a billion dollars. I don’t need money,” he shared.
