Georgia Bureau of Investigation seeks cause of death after body found in Crawford County

A woman was found dead on the side of a road in Crawford County Thursday, according to the county sheriff’s office.

Deputies received a call around 8 a.m. about a dead person on Smith Chapel Road. They found her “unresponsive,” a press release said.

An employee with the county roads department “was in the area working when he discovered the body,” the release said.

She died at the scene and Coroner Randall Pate said her body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Deputies won’t release her name until a family member is notified of her death. The GBI and sheriff’s office are investigating the incident.
