Giant refugee puppet 'Amal' arrives in UK
Amal set off her journey on July 27th in Gaziantep, Turkey, near the Syrian border as part of a 4,970 mile odyssey across Europe, in a bid to raise awareness about the plight of unaccompanied child refugees.
She made stops in Rome to see Pope Francis and in Geneva to see the United Nations building.
On the UK leg of her journey, she will visit Canterbury, London, Oxford, Coventry, Birmingham, Sheffield and Manchester.
Sarah Loader, General Manager of artistic project 'The Walk', said: "She represents all the children that have had to leave their homes, some with their family and some without their family and are looking for a new life outside of their country, looking for safety, looking for a future."
"We wanted to come to Folkestone and Dover, to this very significant place where so many people start their journey for a better life, a new life in the UK and we know so many people have made this crossing and "little Amal" represents all those people."
