Gilles Cormier has announced he is throwing his hat in the ring for the upcoming municipal election in Beaubassin-est.

After nine years on the district education council for the Francophone South School District, and volunteer work in the larger community for more than 30 years, he is running for councillor-at-large in Beaubassin-est, he said in a release.

Cormier said he will focus on sustainable development that protects the environment and provides people with every opportunity for economic and social advancement across the rural community.

“No matter which region of the community, we are all equally in this uniting project that is Beaubassin-est,” he said.

His priorities include post-pandemic economic recovery, tourism development that prioritizes ecotourism such as trails for all seasons and working with local all-terrain and snowmobile associations to promote the location as a tourist destination.

In collaboration with Vision H2O Group, he’d like to work on an ecological, educational and tourism project in the Shemogue Salt Marsh. He’d also like to explore the possibility of a multidisciplinary and multi-generational Regional Centre.

Bringing short-term and long-term home care and care home services for the elderly and improving pedestrian crossing safety at Père-Edgar-T.-LeBlanc school are also priorities.
