Girl, 13, charged with assaulting police officer at Glowfair

Ottawa police have charged a 13-year-old girl accused of kicking an officer in the stomach during Glowfair on Saturday, the second incident involving a teenager and police at the weekend festival.

Police say the alleged attack occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday near the corner of Bank and Waverley streets, and confirm pepper spray was used.

The girl has been charged with assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.

That incident followed another on Friday night when police say a boy tried to grab an officer's baton as police attempted to control the crowd. Pepper spray was deployed in that incident as well.

A 17-year-old boy is facing charges of attempting to disarm a peace officer and causing a disturbance.

Warning: some viewers may find the video of the arrest disturbing.

Both of the accused are from Ottawa, police said Tuesday.

Police said those are the only two investigations stemming from the two-day art and music festival, organized by the Bank Street Business Improvement Area.

Organizers have said it's getting more expensive to provide security for the annual free event.
