Girl, 15, airlifted to hospital after ATV rolls over
One teen girl was seriously injured and flown to a Halifax hospital after an all-terrain vehicle she was driving rolled over in Cape Dauphin, N.S., on Friday afternoon.
RCMP say the 15-year-old girl was driving a side-by-side-model ATV with two passengers when the vehicle rolled over on New Campbellton Road at about 3:40 p.m.
The girl was seriously injured and airlifted to Halifax for treatment. One passenger, a 16-year-old girl, received minor injuries. Another passenger, a 15-year-old boy, was not injured.
RCMP, the Bras d'Or Volunteer Fire Department and paramedics responded to the crash. Baddeck RCMP seized the ATV and are investigating.
Nova Scotia's Off-highway Vehicles Act allows kids who are 14 or 15 to drive an ATV if they are within sight of a parent or guardian and if both the child and the parent or guardian have completed a safety training course. The teen must also wear a helmet and drive an appropriately sized vehicle.
