Girl dies after being struck by garbage truck in Cary crosswalk, police say
A 13-year-old girl has died after being struck by a garbage truck Friday in a crosswalk in Cary, police said.
The incident occurred about 10 a.m. as the girl was crossing at the intersection of High House Road and Cornerstone Drive, according to a news release.
The girl, whose name is not being released because of her age, was walking in the crosswalk when she was hit, the release stated. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.
Adrian T. Holt, 57, of Raleigh, was arrested at the scene and faces charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, failure to yield, failure to reduce speed, and carrying a concealed weapon, the release stated..
He was driving a trash truck from Wall Recycling, a private contractor serving the Cornerstone Shopping Center.
