Canada Revenue Agency targets 3 convenience stores in raids

Canada Revenue Agency investigators accompanied by RCMP officers raided at least three Ottawa convenience stores on Thursday.

The first raid occurred Thursday morning at the Glebe Smoke Shop on Bank Street, which reopened last week after renovations. It was closed today as CRA investigators went through documents and stock.

By Thursday afternoon, investigators had turned their attention to Zesty Market at the corner of Elgin and MacLaren streets, and another Zesty Market at 111 Rideau St.

In a statement issued Thursday afternoon, the Canada Revenue Agency confirmed it conducted searches in the Ottawa area and said it "is committed to cracking down on tax evasion."

It also said it could not comment or provide details on these ongoing investigations or taxpayer specific information.

An RCMP spokesperson said the force is assisting the Canada Revenue Agency with the raids.
