Glee's Jane Lynch has spoken of her fond memories of co-star Naya Rivera.

Rivera passed away during a boating accident in California last month and since her tragic death, there has been an outpouring of tributes from her former castmates, the creators of Glee and family members.

Appearing on Today with Hoda & Jenna, Lynch described Rivera as a "force".

"I think that one of the things that kind of got lost when we were doing the show was what a force she was because there were so many talented people," she said.

"She was one of those people – she wasn't in every scene, but when she was… she just blew everybody away."

Lynch went on to describe how Rivera had a knack for memorising her lines quickly. "I had three-page monologues, so did she," Lynch continued.

"It took me a week to get mine. She would do them right off the bat and they would be changing them and she had no problem with it."

The actress added that her niece Meg was very close with Rivera, who told her: "With Naya, you felt like somebody had your back.

"She was somebody who wasn't going to let anybody mess with you."

Lynch also praised Rivera for being an LGBTQ+ advocate, saying: "She was a great advocate and loved the fact that she and Heather Morris had the lesbian relationship on the show and how much that meant to so many young people."

Earlier this week, Morris paid a special tribute to her and Rivera's on-screen relationship.

The actress posted a three-and-a-half-minute video, during which she discussed the relationship of Brittany and Santana and the impact it had on fans.
