Glenrose Hospital staff members identified in Highway 2 crash near Ponoka

Two staff members at Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton have been identified as the victims in a fatal head-on crash near Ponoka on Saturday afternoon.

Mercedes Dizon worked in adult rehabilitation for 10 years, and most recently in the office of the site medical director. Monique Davey was a nursing professional practice manager, whose responsibilities included nursing education as well as advancing clinical practice.

The two worked together for many years and were long-time friends, Alberta Health Services said in a news release Tuesday.

"Both women shared a passion for the Glenrose and the patients and families," the release said. "They were well-liked and well-known for their significant contributions at the Glenrose, as well as in the broader health-care community. They will both be truly missed."

One other person died and a fourth was sent to hospital in the collision on Highway 2.

Police said a southbound truck crossed the median and veered into the path of a northbound vehicle.
