Globe Life Field wants to become a college baseball destination. TCU likes the idea.

TCU baseball will be playing nonconference games at Globe Life Field in Arlington for a second straight year in 2022.

TCU and Nebraska, two programs that are projected as top-25 teams, will play a three-game series Feb. 25-27 at the Texas Rangers’ home ballpark. Tickets went on sale Friday and can be purchased at www.texasrangers.com/collegebaseball.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for our team to play on a big stage against a program of Nebraska’s stature,” TCU athletic director Jeremiah Donati said. “Given the unpredictable winter weather this time of year and the fact that the Big 12 championship will be hosted there in May, there are also some built-in advantages to having this series played at Globe Life.”

Donati said the Horned Frogs are open to playing more games in future years. Much like the men’s basketball team has made an annual trip to nearby Dickies Arena since that venue opened in 2019, the baseball team could play early-season games annually at Globe Life Field, which opened in 2020.

Along with the weather concerns that time of year and the Big 12 championship moving to Globe Life Field for at least 2022-24, the Rangers also want programs such as TCU playing at their field as often as possible.

Sean Decker, the president of the Rangers-owned REV Entertainment, said the goal is for Globe Life Field to host 30 or more college baseball games in the month of February and first week of March in future years.

“We want to play a ton of games,” Decker said. “We want to continue to bring some of the best programs in the country in. With TCU being right down the road and a world-class program, it’s always our goal to get those guys here.”

Donati said the program is “certainly open to other opportunities to play games or series there when the right situation presents itself.”

“The Texas Rangers have always been incredible hosts to us,” Donati said. “We really value their partnership.”

Tickets for the TCU-Nebraska series can be purchased as a three-game package ($50 for adults and $40 for kids 13 and under), or individually. Single-game prices are $20 for adults and $15 for kids if purchased in advance, or $25 for adults and $20 for kids the day of game.

All seating will be general admission.

This is the first time TCU and Nebraska will meet during the regular season since 1989.

Along with the TCU-Nebraska series, Globe Life Field is also bringing back the State Farm College Showdown to kickoff the college baseball season Feb. 18-20. The Big 12 schools competing in that event are Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Kansas State along with Michigan of the Big Ten, Arizona of the Pac-12 and Auburn of the SEC.

Other college games being played this season include Oklahoma State vs. Sam Houston State on Feb. 22; Texas State vs. Wichita State on Feb. 23; and UT-Arlington vs. Dallas Baptist on March 22.

“For us, it’s more than just putting on another event,” Decker said. “This is something we’re super passionate about. We love the college game.”
