GLOW: Five Things We Wish We’d Gotten to See Before Netflix Gave It the Chop
It’s been three years, but it still hurts like a chokebreaker that Netflix renewed GLOW for a fourth and final season, then — damn it, COVID! — decided, “On second thought, nah.” As series creators Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive put it after the streamer tapped out their ’80s-set female-wrestling dramedy, “There’s a lot of sh-tty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. [Nonetheless, it] sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again.”

Cancelled TV Shows That Came Back!
That it does, even now. Rubbing salt in the wound that was inflicted by the show’s cancellation is the fact that the unexpected ending left a good deal of business unfinished. Heck, we never even got to meet the new characters that the Gorgeous Ladies of Wresting would develop at KFX after Debbie convinced Bash to buy the TV station out from under her boyfriend in Season 3’s finale. (However, Kate Nash, aka Rhonda/Britannica, did tweet out some photos that teased the grapplers’ colorful Season 4 alter egos; take a peek here.)
And the reveal of the ladies’ remixed roles is but one of the things that we wish we’d gotten to see before GLOW had its lights switched off. For five more, keep scrolling, then hit the comments with questions that you still want answered.
Ruth-less People
In Season 3’s finale, Ruth rejected Debbie’s offer to direct GLOW 2.0 at KFX. But c’mon. Ultimately, the erstwhile Zoya the Destroya couldn’t possibly give up the chance to call the shots, especially when doing so would mean abandoning the family that she formed in the ring. Er, right? We need to know!
‘Out’ of the Question
Though Bash admitted to himself (as well as Debbie) that he was gay, rather than hang a rainbow flag, he doubled down on his ill-advised marriage to Rhonda and even suggested that they start a family. So it would have been extremely rewarding to see him follow Arthie’s footsteps out of the closet.
Family Tatters
Keith thought that he could repair his and Cherry’s marriage by adopting so that his wife could continue wrestling. But her expression when he floated the idea in the series’ last episode implied that he might have thought wrong. What we wouldn’t give to have found out whether the couple worked it out!
Wanted Dead or Alive
First, Sam suffered a heart attack. Then, he adopted daughter Justine to ensure that she inherited if and/or when he died. Doing the math, we wanted to be wrong but were afraid that we weren’t. Was GLOW setting the stage for his untimely demise? And would the show really have killed him off when he was…
Close But No Cigar
Sam’s love/hate relationship with Ruth had started veering perilously close to love/love before the series was sent to its premature grave. As a result, maybe more than anything else — since obviously Betty and Ruth’s friendship was going to heal — we were, ahem, dying to learn whether the sparring partners would ever acknowledge or act on their feelings.
