Gogglebox viewers react after Abby asks if "the Doctor Who man is a murderer in real life"

From Digital Spy

Gogglebox viewers were left flabbergasted tonight (September 18) when Abby asked a bemusing question about David Tennant's ITV series Des.

Des is a three-part drama based on the 1983 arrest of Scottish serial killer Dennis Nilsen, but Abby appeared to have some difficulty in understanding that Tennant was merely acting the part.

Having been told that series is based on those horrifying true events, Abby turned to her friend Georgia and asked: "So the Doctor Who man is a murderer in real life?"

Guffawing in disbelief, Georgia informed Abby that 10th Doctor isn't actually a killer and that he was just acting.

Naturally, viewers soon expressed their astonishment.

"Is the #DoctorWho man David Tennant a murder in real life? I'm finished already & we've only just started," tweeted one viewer.

Another wrote: "Yes dear. Doctor Who isn’t real either. It’s called acting."

"So Doctor Who is a serial killer in real life. Only on #gogglebox," another tweeted.

Des has been heavily praised by viewers, with some describing it as the "best drama on TV", while Tennant's chilling performance as Nilsen has also been hailed.

The miniseries has become a record breaker for ITV. The first episode was watched by an average audience of 5.4 million, making it ITV's biggest drama launch of the year, and its biggest debut since 2019's Cleaning Up.

Gogglebox airs on Channel 4.
