What’s going on with University Drive in Fort Worth? Here’s when construction will finish
Roadway construction on South University Drive in Fort Worth has shifted traffic with lane closures and now a new traffic signal will soon be operational.
The section of South University Drive under construction is a bustling thoroughfare used to get to and from places like University Park Village shopping center, Fort Worth Zoo, Colonial Country Club and Texas Christian University.
Roadway improvements started earlier this year and include raised concrete medians, resurfaced pavement and a new traffic signal.
The traffic signal is at the intersection of University Drive and Collinsworth Street, near Panera Bread and IHOP.
Lara Ingram, Transportation and Public Works Communications, said in an email that the traffic signal is estimated to be operational by the end of September.
Traffic signal and crosswalk improvements for the University Drive and Old University Drive intersection are also planned.
Striped bike lanes on Old University Drive will separate the traffic lanes by a 3-foot buffer area, however there are no bike lanes planned for University Drive.
Improvements to sidewalks, pedestrian ramps and lighting are also included in the project.
All six lanes on South University Drive will remain open during special events like TCU home football games and the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, according to the city of Fort Worth.
Construction is scheduled for completion in February, Ingram said.
