Golf course sustains tens of thousands of dollars in damage

A golf course near Fredericton sustained tens of thousands of dollars in damage to its equipment and grounds over the weekend, say police.

Keswick RCMP are investigating three incidents of property damage at Kingswood Golf in Hanwell, said Const. Jason Tremblay.

The damage occurred between Friday and Sunday, he said.

Police are asking for the public's help to identify the person or persons responsible.

Anyone with information, or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area, is asked to call the RCMP at 506-357-4300, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Kingswood Golf has insurance, but the deductible is fairly high, golf director Chris Billings has said.

When off-roaders caused "significant" damage to the greens in May 2013, Billings expected the golf course would have to absorb the cost of repairs.

All-terrain vehicles and motorbikes had kicked up chunks of turf doing jumps and doughnuts, Billings had said.
