Google's YouTube Kids app now available in Canada

Google has launched its YouTube Kids app in Canada, pledging to help parents offer age-appropriate, family-friendly online video content to their children.

The app launched at an event in Toronto Tuesday, about nine months after going live in the U.S.

Some American parents' groups had expressed concern that some videos available on the service blur the boundaries between entertainment and advertising.

Amendments were made, including allowing parents to remove the search function, so only videos on the app's five homescreens are available.

But regardless of whether the search function is activated or not, the app is "limited to family-friendly content that's kid appropriate," Angela Lin, head of YouTube Kids & Learning Partnerships in North America, told CBC News.
