Granbury teacher on administrative leave after leaving gun unattended in school restroom

A Granbury High School teacher is on administration leave after leaving a gun unattended in a restroom on March 3, according to district officials.

No one was injured and the weapon was secured by district security officers.

The teacher is also a school marshal. The firearm was unattended in a “locked and secured” teacher restroom, according to district officials. Students do not have access to the restroom.

“We commend the staff who took immediate action to ensure the situation was reported and resolved quickly,” Grandbury school district administration said in an email sent to parents.

The teacher was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation and their Texas Commission on Law Enforcement marshal certification has been revoked.

In Texas, school staff may carry firearms in schools as part of the school marshal program. Candidates have a License to Carry, pass a psychological exam and undergo 80 hours of training.

School officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
