Grass fire west of Millarville prompts evacuation of area homes
Some homes west of Millarville in southern Alberta are being evacuated because of a grass fire.
The Municipal District of Foothills says the blaze is located near Quirk Creek and Highway 549 west of Highway 762.
The fire has reduced visibility on the area, so emergency crews have blocked access in all directions from where the highways intersect.
There is also a grass fire north of Okotoks overpass at the Highway 2 interchange with Highway 2A and Highway 552E. The fire is moving eastbound.
The local fire chief says it is under control, but there are still some hay bales on fire.
The M.D. is asking people to stay away from these areas.
A fire ban has been issued for the M.D. and Village of Longview.
