'Great British Bake Off' Winners: Where are they now?

Edd Kimber took home the prestigious winning title of the first ever Great British Bake Off series back in 2010. The Bradford native quit his job as a debt collector for a bank to pursue his baking career fulltime. And he’s found relative success, as he’s published three cookbooks including ‘The Boy Who Bakes’ and served as the resident baker on The Alan Titchmarsh Show. He continues to regularly provide recipe and features for various culinary publications and regularly shares what he’s up to on his personal blog (theboywhobakes.com).

Jo Wheatley was a fan favourite from the get go of series two Great British Bake Off. Beloved for her bubbly and fun personality, she’s since published two books – ‘A Passion for Baking’ and ‘Home Baking.’ Wheatley also set up her own cooking school and regularly contributes as a cooking columnist to newspapers and magazines.

John Whaite quit his fledgling career as a banker for a full-time career as a baker after winning series three of Great British Bake Off in 2012. Whaite’s go on to earn a diploma in patisserie and even open his own cooking school based in Lancashire. He has published four cooking books and has presented on a multitude of shows – including Lorraine, This Morning, What’s Cooking? and Sunday Brunch.

Frances Quinn is perhaps one of the most low key winners yet. Beating Ruby Tandoh to the final spot, she’s been quietly plugging away at her cooking career since taking home the winning title. Quinn released a cookbook in 2015, “Quinntessential Baking” and regularly appears at food festivals and seminars across the UK. She also has quite the Instagram following (@frances_quinn), where she regularly updates her followers with her latest culinary creations.

Nancy Birtwhistle may be one of the oldest competitors in the history of Great British Bake Off but that didn’t stop her from winning series five. Retired when she stepped into the Bake Off tent, she’s since thrown herself back in the workforce and serves as a contributor for the Daily Telegraph, has her own baking website and regularly gives baking demonstrations at cooking fairs across the UK.

Nadiya Hussain may have won the series three years ago, but she remains one of the most popular winners to date. Hussain has gone on to publish books, host cooking series, regularly appear on The One Show and even was commissioned by Buckingham Palace to bake a cake in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday celebrations. She’s also won multiple awards, including Women in Film & Television UK Presenter Award in 2017.

PE teacher Candice Brown quit her job to focus on her budding baking career after winning Great British Bake Off in 2016. She’s appeared as a cooking demonstrator multiple times on This Morning since and even competed in the tenth series of Dancing on Ice. Partnered up with Matt Evans, unfortunately Brown’s appearance didn’t go too well, as she was the first competitor to be eliminated. According to numerous rumour mill reports, she is being tipped to join a Bake Off all stars spin-off series that will be on later this year.

Sophie Faldo is the latest Great British Bake Off winner. The former army officer won series eight, the first series of Bake Off to air on Channel 4. Sadly her victory didn’t come as much of a surprise, as judge Prue Leith accidentally tweeted the winning results twelve hours before the episode aired. Faldo has gone on to promote her baking skills on various television shows and food fairs. According to her Instagram (@sophiefaldo), she is currently filming an upcoming food show set in Kenya.
