Greenhouse Gas Plan waiting for new climate change coordinator

NORTH PERTH – In early 2019 climate change coordinator Rebecca Garlick was hired to develop a community-wide Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reduction Plan for the seven area municipalities within Perth County under a Local Partnership Agreement. The GHG Plan has been drafted and is to be presented to all seven councils.

In February, the participating municipalities agreed to extend the climate change coordinator position to Dec. 31 with a possible extension through 2022.

Garlick resigned as of March 12. The project steering committee met on March 5 to review the GHG Plan so the coordinator could make edits before her last day of employment. The committee also discussed the timelines for the presentation of the GHG Plan to the respective councils and the recruitment of a new coordinator.

Recruitment for a contract climate change coordinator was initiated by North Perth on March 12.

“We had interviews this week that went very well so we hope to be making an announcement soon,” CAO Kriss Snell told council during an update on April 12. “The new climate change coordinator will review the plan completed by the previous climate change coordinator and prepare presentations for council.”

Presentations of the GHG Plan will be made to councils once the new coordinator is prepared.
