Grimsby council OKs site plan for Main Street retirement residence

Grimsby councillors unanimously approved a proposed site plan for a new 44-unit retirement residence on Main Street West.

The application by Elderlife Carehome Ltd., also known as Trinity Retirement Residence, came before councillors at the Feb. 1 committee of the whole meeting. The single, two-storey retirement residence with 34 parking spaces, is being proposed for 575 Main St. W. This would, however, require the demolishing of five existing buildings from the former Palace Motels site.

The building is proposed as a long-term retirement residence with optional care for those in need. The L-shaped complex will contain several units of varying design, seven studio suites, three one-bedroom suites, 24 two-bedroom suites and 10 accessible suites, totalling 44 units. Per the application, there will also be “one single detached residence as an accessory use to an agricultural operation.”

After some deliberation about the purpose of residence and the number of accessible parking spaces, councillors unanimously approved the site plan.
