Grizzly bears frequenting Lake Louise area prompt special warning
Grizzly bears are frequenting the busy Lake Louise townsite and surrounding areas, according to Parks Canada officials who issued a special warning Tuesday morning.
"Special caution is recommended while travelling or camping in this area," the warning said.
The affected areas include the townsite, the Tramline Trail, Bow River Trail and Louise Creek Trail, as well as the Lake Louise Campground.
Anyone travelling in the area is advised to make noise when hiking, keep all pets on a leash and to carry bear spray and know how to use it.
Cyclists and trail runners are specifically advised to slow down when travelling through dense shrubs or around blind corners to reduce the risk of catching a bear by surprise.
Anyone who spots a bear is asked to report it immediately to the visitor centre or Banff park dispatch at 403-762-1473.
