The head of a Yukon teachers' union says the use of holds at a Whitehorse school is a symptom of larger, systemic issues, including chronic understaffing and inadequate oversight from the education department. An internal review ordered by the Yukon Department of Education found that holds, restraints and seclusion were being routinely used on students at Jack Hulland Elementary School prior to 2020 for matters of "non-compliance," according to meeting notes recently shared with CBC News. HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania’s Republican primary for an open U.S. Senate seat is too close to call and is likely headed for a statewide recount to decide the winner of the contest between heart surgeon-turned-TV celebrity Dr. Mehmet Oz and former hedge fund CEO David McCormick. A recount would mean that the outcome of the race might not be known until June 8, the deadline for counties to report their results to the state. CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — The son of a single mother who raised him on a pension, Anthony Albanese had a humble start to life for a politician who could become Australia’s prime minister on Saturday.
