‘Gutfeld!’ Ratings Soar, Outpace Late Night Interviews With Kamala Harris, Tim Walz | Exclusive
“Gutfeld!” ratings soared in the third quarter of 2024, with recent shows even outpacing late night interviews with VP Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, TheWrap can reveal exclusively.
“Gutfeld!” recently delivered its highest-rated quarter to date, with its third quarter of 2024 with an average 2.8 million viewers and 413,000 in 25-54 demo during the 10 p.m. ET hour, according to Nielsen, outpacing its cable news competition as well as other broadcast and late night shows, including NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”
As “Gutfeld!” hosted Donald Trump in his first late night appearance since a 2016 interview with Fallon, the Fox News show scored its highest-rated telecast ever on Sept. 18 with an average viewership of 4.9 million and 744,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo.
As “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” welcomed Harris on Monday, Oct. 7, the ABC late night show scored 2 million total viewers and 309,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo, coming in behind the total viewership of 2.9 million and demo viewership of 342,0000 scored by “Gutfeld!”
The trend continued on Tuesday, Oct. 8 as Walz appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” with the CBS late night show tallying up 2.89 million viewers and 428,000 demo viewers, while the Greg Gutfeld-hosted show brought in 3.1 million viewers and 428,000 in the 25-54 demo. “Gutfeld!” continued to outpace viewership for “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” which averaged 1.48 total viewers and 228,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo.
It’s important to note that while Fox News considers “Gutfeld!” a late night show, it airs in the 10 p.m. ET time slot, over an hour earlier than broadcast late night shows like “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” or “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” begin airing. The broadcast networks also operate on a different key demo, with networks aiming to target adults 18-49.
“Gutfeld!” also dominated ratings among competing cable news programming on both days, with Monday seeing CNN’s Newsnight average 497,000 total viewers and 86,000 demo viewers while MSNBC’s “Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” averaged 1.705 million viewers and 148,000 viewers among adults ages 25-54.
On Tuesday, CNN’s Newsnight averaged 758,000 viewers and 165,000 in the demo and MSNBC’s “Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” scored an average viewership of 1.76 million and a demo viewership of 154,000.
