Whether it's a blessing of genetics, the hard work of dermatologists, or it really is all smoothies and meditation, there's no denying that Gwyneth Paltrow looks phenomenal.

At 49, the actress and Goop founder scarcely looks a day older than when she starred in the 1998 film "Shakespeare in Love." And while we're sure her nut butter smoothies and morning meditations play a role, Paltrow says the secret to her glowing skin is a "minimal" skincare routine, which, for many years, included the cult-classic St. Ives Apricot Scrub.

"I've always been pretty consistent. Like I've always kind of been minimal," the actress told Elle in a recent interview.

Before switching to her $165 Goop Microderm Instant Glow Exfoliator, Paltrow told the magazine that she was a "big fan" of the $8 drugstore face scrub.

What is it

The St. Ives Fresh Skin Facial Scrub has become a cult beauty buy among skincare fanatics, and for a good reason.

The dermatologist-tested exfoliator contains 100 per cent natural walnut shell powder and naturally-sourced apricot extract and is paraben-free and non-comedogenic.

It works to remove impurities while providing in-depth exfoliation and is a gentle antidote to blackheads and lacklustre skin.

'Best exfoliant I've used'

The Gwyneth Paltrow-approved face scrub has earned an impressive average rating of 4.6 stars from Amazon shoppers.

It "leaves my face baby-skin-soft," raves one shopper. "I don't get breakouts with it," my moisturizer "soaks in better," and my makeup "goes on [like] a breeze."

It's the "best exfoliant I've used," writes another reviewer. I've "used this for many years," and you can "feel the smoothness."

"It smells gorgeous and "completely cleared up [my] dry skin."

While shoppers almost unanimously praise the scrub's smell, texture, and affordable price tag, some note it can be "quite harsh" as a daily scrub and recommend only using it one-two times per week.

It shouldn't be used daily "for people with sensitive skin," writes one user. It "will dry your skin out."

It's "quite a deep exfoliant," so you run the risk of "damaging your skin," says another. There are times when "I've been overzealous with it," and it's "left my cheeks red." However, the trick is to apply the product gently and "not rush it."

Verdict

With an average rating of 4.6 stars from more than 3,500 Amazon shoppers and Gwyneth Paltrow's seal of approval, many agree that the St. Ives Apricot Scrub is the "best exfoliant [they've] used." However, some shoppers caution the scrub can be "quite harsh" on sensitive skin, something to keep in mind before heading to checkout.
