Hailey Bieber Deactivates Twitter Amid Backlash for ‘Shading’ Selena Gomez With Justine Skye

Okay, guys, this might be completely unrelated, but Hailey Bieber has deactivated her Twitter account amid accusations that she and singer Justine Skye “shaded” Selena Gomez during a workout video.

Confused? Allow me to fill you in. First, Justin Bieber was called out earlier this month for lip-syncing his ex-girlfriend’s name in the music video for Drake and DJ Khaled’s “Popstar.”

Then, per elle.com, many Gomez fans were convinced Hailey and Skye took a dig at the Rare Beauty mogul while working out to the song in a seemingly deleted Instagram video by Dog Pound fitness trainer Kevin Mejia. Some fans swore they could hear Skye say in the video, “Nobody says Selena.” Here’s the thing: I’ve watched the video about 20 times and can’t hear anything.

As of today, September 17, Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber haven’t said anything about the drama. However, on September 16, Bieber deactivated her Twitter account and Skye responded on Twitter. “I was tryna be nice but idc, you guys are fucking weird,” she wrote. “Stop searching for reasons to attack people [in] defense of your FAV. Especially if it’s completely inaccurate. Don’t y’all have homework to do or somethin.”

Unfortunately, this statement has not put an end to the outrage, with many Gomez fans flooding the replies.

This isn’t the only Gomez Twitter drama this week. Demi Lovato’s fiancé, Max Ehrich, has also deactivated his account after some old tweets reportedly expressing interest in Gomez went viral. On September 13, Lovato put out a statement on Instagram Stories addressing the issue. “It’s really sad when people FAKE images to put women against each other. If women have conflict that’s between them NOT YOU,” she wrote. “Secondly, don’t y’all have more important shit to write about in 2020??? I challenge any tabloid that dares to type my name to mention Breonna Taylor and the fact that her murderers still haven’t been arrested. WRITE ABOUT THAT.”

She continued, “But then I stop and think.. it’s hella rude but damn.. I get it. And I don’t wanna look at what’s really happening in the world either but WE HAVE TO. Yes, it’s easier to tear apart celebrities and their relationships because 2020 sucks and scares the shit out of us all but it’s only gonna stay terrifying until we address it all and WORK ON SOLUTIONS TOGETHER.”

Lovato added, “So while on one hand I understand and have compassion for those who are so horrified at the reality of 2020 that they gotta distract themselves with doctored images in order to not focus on how bad these times are—but on the other hand, if you aren’t 13 years old trying to grasp the reality of right now, put on your adult underpants and write about what actually matters. Please.”

All this comes on the heels of Rare Beauty’s statement in defense of makeup artist Patrick Starrr, whom Gomez fans accused of using her makeup line to push his own brand.

“Please remember that everyone has different preferences with makeup, and not everything is going to work for everyone. That’s okay,” the company tweeted on September 10. “@Patrickstarrr is such a positive voice in this community and an incredible creator and entrepreneur so let’s all show him nothing but love!”

What happened to “kill ’em with kindness”?
