Hailstorm leaves trail of damage in Redwood Meadows

Some residents of Redwood Meadows are cleaning up after a massive hail storm rolled through last night.

Carl Giddens says when the storm hit just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, it sounded like a freight train coming through.

"And all of a sudden it took to hailing, lightly at first and then it started pounding. It went on for 10 minutes, maybe 12, and it was the biggest hail stones I ever seen," he said.

Giddens says the hail broke skylights in his home and trashed vehicles in the yard.

Most of the homes in the north end of Redwood Meadows suffered some damage while the south end of the community escaped relatively unscathed, he said.

The townsite of just under 1,000 people west of Calgary was hard hit by the 2013 flood.
