Halifax musician takes to Facebook to track down stolen bass

Stolen bass crowdfunding page meets goal in less than 1 day

Larry Amirault was unloading his car around 10:30 p.m. Friday night on Liverpool Street in Halifax when he said someone stole his bass.

"I had set my bass down at the bottom of my stairs, went into the house for less than five minutes and came back out and it was gone," said Amirault outside his home Saturday afternoon.

Amirault said he got in his car to try and track down the thieves himself.

"It had only been a few minutes so I figured, heck, I might be able to see them walking up the street. It's not like it's a small case," he said.

"It's a big, long case and at the same time I was on the phone with the police to let them know what was going on and yeah, no luck."

Amirault said his iPad and pins that belonged to his deceased father were also in the guitar case.

"One was a pin that said 'Volunteer' because my dad was heavily into volunteering with different schools and stuff and another one was a little CP Rail pin because he was a model railroader and it was one of his pins so I wear both on my guitar strap when I play," he explained.

He estimated the stolen contents were worth around $800.

Amirault said he needs his bass for an upcoming performance at Neptune Theatre. He wrote a Facebook post about the theft.

Amirault said people have been quick to offer him support after he posted to Facebook. He said fellow musicians have offered to lend him a bass.

Amirault said he's not interested in pressing charges against the thief. He said whoever has it now can drop it off anonymously at any Long and McQuade store, no questions asked.

"We know Larry and we hope he gets [his bass] back." said Andrew Waite, Assistant Manager of Long & McQuade in Halifax.
