Halifax police arrest teens after finding handgun, marijuana

Two 17-year-old boys face multiple charges after a high-risk takedown in Halifax on Sunday, according to Halifax Regional Police.

Around 4:15 p.m., police say they got a call about a vehicle near the BMO Centre in Bedford. One of the occupants had a handgun.

Officers later found the vehicle and performed a high-risk takedown on Joseph Howe Drive. Police say they seized a loaded handgun and marijuana.

They face one count each of the following charges:

Unsafe storage of a firearm

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Carrying a concealed weapon

Possession of a firearm knowing it's unauthorized

Unauthorized firearm in a vehicle

Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition

Possession of marijuana for purpose of trafficking

The two were supposed to appear in court on Monday, but due to the winter storm they were instead remanded into police custody. Police say they will appear in court at a later date.
