Hamilton police arrest Brampton man in city's first homicide

Hamilton police have arrested a Brampton man in the city's first homicide of 2017.

Antonio Sedeno Charles, 30, was arrested Sunday night after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He has been charged with second degree murder.

The 40-year-old victim likely died after a "minor altercation" escalated quickly, police say.

Police say Melvin Jn'marie lived at 210 Parkdale Ave. N. when he was found in a nearby alleyway. Officers responded to a call around 3:30 Saturday afternoon in Hamilton's east end, where they found Jn'marie with life threatening injuries.

He was rushed to Hamilton General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Charles is expected to appear in court to face the charge Monday morning.

"There is every indication… this started as a minor altercation that quickly escalated," police said in a media release.

Police have not released the cause of death.

Hamilton police are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Call Det. Sgt. Dave Oleniuk at 905-546-3829 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
