Mads Mikkelsen has teased Hannibal fans about a possible revival.

The actor, who played the cannibalistic killer in NBC‘s cult series, made the reference on social media after learning the series was arriving on Netflix in June.

“Hannibal hits Netflix in June,” he wrote, linking fans to an article with the headline: ”Is Hannibal season 4 on the way?”

There has been plenty of speculation about a possible return for the series after it was axed in 2015 due to low ratings.

Creator Bryan Fuller has made no secret of the fact that he had plans to continue the show before the network’s decision.

Mikkelsen himself told The Express in 2016 that he was left “angry” and “pissed” about the show’s cancellation, adding: “Season four was actually the one we thought we’d definitely get. Seasons two and three were on the verge. But by the time we got to season four we thought it was a definite. We were very surprised at the decision.”

In 2017, Fuller said that he had a “great idea” for a fourth season.

“I have conversations with [Hannibal executive producer] Martha De Laurentiis,” he told the Post Mortem with Mick Garris.

“I have conversations with Mads [Mikkelsen] and Hugh [Dancy]. We’re are all excited about the prospect of returning to the story.”

But, he admitted there were “some hurdles to get [over]” in regards to reviving the show.
