Health Canada seizes health products, hormones, from Winnipeg supplement store

The owner of a Winnipeg supplement store that had five health products seized from her says she's cut ties with the Canadian distributor that sold them to her.

Health Canada took five workout and weight loss products from Keebo Sports Supplements on St. Mary's Road in Winnipeg Friday.

Health officials say products Yohimbine, Diesel Fuel Stim, Amp-Stim, HydroxyElite and Andro Quad all have ingredients that can pose serious health risks.

Health Canada says HydroxyElite contains a male hormone that can affect fertility and sperm production, and increase the risk of prostate, breast and ovarian cancer.

The product also contains a drug called DMMA that can cause shortness of breath and chest pain.

Susan Cruz, the owner of the store, said she got the products from a Canadian health distributor that she's now cut ties with.

"I am a business owner, I do my due diligence," she said.

"I was trusting that they had done their due diligence."

Health Canada also said Yohimbine is a prescription drug that can cause high blood pressure, anxiety and dizziness.

Officials said Andro Quad has the ingredient 4-androsterone, which can cause liver and heart disease and cause behavioural changes.
