FREDERICTON — Health officials in New Brunswick are reporting 14 new cases of COVID-19 today.

Eight of the new cases are in the Edmundston region and involve contacts of previous cases.

Meanwhile there are four new cases in the Moncton region, and the Fredericton and Saint John areas each have one new case — all six are travel-related.

New Brunswick now has 126 active cases and five people are in hospital, including two in intensive care.

Chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell says the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine will still be used in New Brunswick for people over the age of 55.

Responding to a recommendation from federal experts Monday to suspend the vaccine's use in people under 55, Russell said the AstraZeneca vaccine is safe and she would have no problem taking it herself.
