Heatwave delays opening of Vancouver's zipline

Heatwave delays opening of Vancouver's zipline

The zipline to commemorate Queen Elizabeth Park's 75th anniversary officially opened in Vancouver a day late after its testing was delayed by the heatwave.

"The heat affects our line tension meaning we have to be tightening more often than normal between our test weights, which slowed down our test process," says Randi Thomas, a spokeswoman for the company that built the zipline.

But she says the tests have been successfully completed and the grand opening will take place on Saturday.

The continued heat, which Vancouver is forecasted to have, will not be a problem in the future, says Thomas.

Thrill seekers can zip down 190 metres from the top of the park near Bloedel Conservatory down to the Quarry Gardens. The attraction can move 60 people every hour.
