Heatwave in Greece halts visits to ancient site Acropolis
Authorities in Athens on Wednesday announced the closure of the Acropolis - Greece's most visited tourist site - for over five hours due to heat wave temperatures that prompted many schools to close.
The UNESCO-listed archaeological site in the Greek capital which drew nearly 4 million visitors last year was closed from midday till 5:00 pm local time as the high temperature climbed over 39 degrees Celsius.
Greece is frequently subjected to scorching summer temperatures.
