Hedges and Team Canada to compete in final Paralympic qualifier

Wonowon product Bo Hedges and Canada’s Senior Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team are competing in the last Paralympic Games qualifier from April 12th to 15th.

The top four teams from the IWBF Repechage men’s tournament in Antibes, France, earn a spot at the Paralympic Games in Paris from August 28th to September 8th.

‘’We are becoming more and more a cohesive unit,’’ said Hedges in an interview with the 2024 Canadian Paralympic Committee. ‘’We trust in what we're doing and trust in one another. That is going to be a key for us if we're going to qualify.’’

If Team Canada earns a Paralympic berth, it will be Hedges’ fifth Games appearance.

The teams competing in the eight-country tournament are split into two groups of four.

Teams in Group A include Canada, the Netherlands, Iran, and France. Group B is comprised of Colombia, Germany, Morocco, and Italy.

The senior men will have to regroup after falling in their opener to the Netherlands, 62-45 on Friday. Hedges had six points in the loss.

In March, Hedges was nominated for the Sport BC Athlete of the Year in the Athlete with a Disability category.

The Senior Women’s National Team will participate in a repechage tournament in Japan from April 17th to 20th.

Both tournaments will be streamed live on CBC Sports digital platforms, including the free CBC Gem streaming service, cbcsports.ca, and the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices.
