Power restored to all but 830 households without power after sudden storm

NB Power crews have been able to reconnect all but 830 households and businesses that lost power Wednesday afternoon after strong winds and rain brought trees in contact with power lines.

The sudden storm knocked out power in Woodstock, Grand Falls, Fredericton and the Bathurst area early in the evening.

The storm initially knocked out power to 8,000 customers.

The Bathurst area, along with parts of the Acadian Peninsula, had the additional surprise Wednesday of snow earlier in the day.

Marc Belliveau, the spokesperson for the utility, said the largest area of power outages is still in Fredericton, where more than 300 households were without power.

In Carleton County, more than 200 homes and businesses are still without power.

Belliveau couldn't say how many crews had been dispatched or when power will be restored for everyone.

"But I do know we have a lot of crews out there working this afternoon."

Belliveau said restoration times depend on the area. The outages began at 2:11 p.m. Wednesday.

"So it is all a bit fluid when there are many outages."
