High school students have upped the ante for promposals in recent years. While grand gestures are becoming more common with teens, one Tennessee student set his ask apart from the rest — by jumping out of a plane.

Ty Myers, 19, pulled off a daring skydiving promposal for his girlfriend of over two and a half years, Katie Potter. He uploaded a video capturing the experience to YouTube, where it has already received over 23,000 views.

In order to pull off the elaborate ask, Myers — who has been jumping for over a year now and has completed close to 30 jumps — enlisted the help of some of his family members.

“My mom and I picked Katie up and told her that we were just going to watch me jump, which she has done before, and that she was going to help video my landing. We needed something to keep her a little more distracted,” Myers tells Yahoo Style. “When we got to the skydive facility, Skydive East Tennessee, a few of my mentors and friends helped keep the whole plan a secret, while another geared up to video the jump.”

While his mother distracted Potter, Myers changed from his skydiving gear into a tuxedo and got ready for the jump.

“We flew up to 12,000 feet before jumping. We had a free-fall time of about 50 seconds and reached speeds of 120 mph. Katie had no idea any of this was happening!” he shares. “As I came in for landing, I yelled, ‘Katie, go to prom with me!’ That was when she started noticing that I wasn’t in my original jumpsuit and that I was holding a sign asking her to prom! Her reaction was priceless, and the fact that she helped video her own promposal without even knowing it was great! My little brother Caden cut together the video that is on YouTube for me, and he did a great job!”

“Once I saw him in the sky with a tie and suit on yelling would I go to prom with him, I was certainly surprised. I was even more surprised when the videographer showed me the video they recorded in the air while he was free-falling and holding the sign,” Potter says. “He went above and beyond to ask me to senior prom because he’s just that type of guy. He always goes out of his way to do things for others. He is truly one of a kind.”

Unsurprisingly, the couple’s peers at school had a lot to say about the grand gesture.

“Several of my classmates and teachers approached me the next day at school and told me how much they loved it — and that he was a keeper and set the standard very high! I told them that I knew he was a keeper and he had set the standard high a long time ago,” Potter says.

Although a few of Myers’s friends poked fun at him for orchestrating such an elaborate ask, he felt that Potter deserved a gesture of that magnitude for the big event.

“I got razzed for it a little bit — just because of how over-the-top it was — but it was all in good fun. All of my friends told me that they thought it was pretty cool!” he says. “Katie is such an amazing girl that I felt like she deserved something of this caliber! She has a genuine joy about her and could make friends with a brick wall. People naturally gravitate towards her personality, and it is hard not to love her!”
